“Unconscious Hearts (Hearts of Vegas Book 1)” by: Harper Sloan

Hi Everyone! I have been it such a reading rut. I finally found a book that held my attention. This is my first book by this author, but won’t be my last. Let’s get this party started!

Blurb:

Ari Daniels didn’t count on her whole world tumbling down around her in a mess of shredded promises, broken love, and unbelievable heartbreak. Alone and stricken with grief, she shouldered the blame and eventually closed her heart off, refusing to open it for another. After all, anytime she tried, guilt and regret were waiting in the wings to remind her how painful it was.

A bet and one steamy night with a stranger force Ari to confront all she’s been hiding behind. She tries to move on, but he refuses to stand down, wanting what she is terrified to give—herself. This man may very well destroy her in the end, especially when it’s clear he has his own demons.

What happens when two broken souls come together, finally allowing themselves to believe in the beauty of love … only to have to fight harder than ever to keep it?

Okay! So I feel like I should first tell you that this is a series, however each book is another set of characters story. NO CLIFFHANGER HERE! Thank you Harper! If you don’t know Harper Sloan, you need to look her up, and follow her on Facebook, Instagram, and snap chat. She is hilarious and amazing. She also has an amazing cat Kevin, who has his own instagram page, and is an outlet for her humor. I have followed her for a while before I actually bought a book. I don’t know why it took me so long, but I was having such a hard time finding a book that called to me, but I read this in one day.

This may sound surprising to any of you how read my reviews all the time, I like Ari, the main girl character! I know what is the world coming to! So, Ari is a girl with a devastating past and is content to be alone for the rest of her life. She owns a high end thrift shop, and works with her best friend Piper (who I also love). Ari, who’s real name is Paris, is estranged from her sister London, and her sister likes to call Ari and make her life a little harder.

Just when Ari has come to terms with being alone with only Piper and her business in her life, in walks Thorn. Thorn is a huge, tattooed, hot bad boy that needs to get rid of some high end items left to him in a will. He invites Ari to the house he was left and all the hundreds of items he wants to sell really fast. Only, Thorn sees Ari and has to have her, so he makes a deal. She will beg him within 30 seconds to take her, or she can take all the items for free. Let me just say, This is a Hugh bet, like a $4 million dollar bet. To say he is cocky is an understatement. And it just gets better from there.

They are both trying to stay away from attachments, and relationships, but both feel something immediately. They are drawn to each other, but the big question is whether or not they can convince themselves and each other to take the chance. Will it work when they want to run, or because of their past, will they fall back into old habits. Will they listen when someone tells them they deserve happiness, or believe that they still don’t because of their past? You know I am not going to tell you, you will have to read it to find out if they make it.

Finally, just when I thought this was just a love story, she throws in some serious action and a total “WHAT THE HELL JUST HAPPENED?” moment that you don’t see coming.

Ahhhhh yes! My favorite part, it is written in both Ari, Thorn, and a mystery persons point of view. I love multiple point of views. Everyone says its because I am nosey by nature.

If you are modest and don’t like vulgar language, find another book. This is an erotic romance, and trust me it delivers. This is a steamy book, and is very descriptive. I don’t feel like it was done in a distasteful way, or took away from the story. Sometimes I feel like it is forced in some stories, however I didn’t feel that way at all in this book.

I have to say a congratulations to this author, she has officially written a story where I didn’t absolutely hate the lead girl, or the important characters. I can’t remember a book, since my last Darynda Jones book, or Jeanine Frost books, that this has happened. I guess I shouldn’t be so surprised since Harper is a great girl herself.

I would read this book again, I have since bought another of Harper Sloan’s book. I am sure it won’t be my last. I can’t wait.

You should definitely give this a chance, and read it. I can’t see how you would be disappointed!

Peace,

Les

The Vampire’s Accidental Wife by Kristen Painter

IMG_0250Hey everybody,
The Blurb:   Welcome to Nocturne Falls, the town that celebrates Halloween 365 days a year. Las Vegas headliner and vampire Desdemona Valentine is one cool, collected diva on the outside. On the inside, she’s petrified of falling in love after her last relationship nearly killed her…literally. Protecting her wounded heart makes for a lonely life, but she has her fame and fortune to keep her company. Who needs anything more? Julian Ellingham does. One look at Desdemona on stage, and the vampire is smitten. She initially ignores him, but his relentless pursuit pays off when a wild night ends in a Vegas wedding. Finally, Julian has everything he wants while all Desdemona wants is…a divorce. Julian sweet-talks Desdemona into letting him prove his love, but his time is running out. Especially after someone repeatedly tries to turn his bride to ash. When Desdemona flees Vegas for the spooky streets of Nocturne Falls and Julian’s protection, he’s more than willing to help out. But can he convince Desdemona to trust him, or will ‘death do us part’ become a reality?
My thoughts:  Another visit to one of my favorite little towns–Nocturne Falls. This book tells the story of Julian and Desi, both vampires. Julian’s family is a founding family of Nocturne Falls and Desi is a performer in Vegas. Her show has her pretending to be a human pretending to be a vampire! Julian meets her, falls in love, her not so much because of her tragic past, getting drunk and getting married in a little Vegas chapel! What’s not to love? Then, problems start. Not only does Desi not want to be married although she likes Julian, but she has a stalker determined to find her and destroy her life. Enter Julian to take care of his wife. He moves her to Nocturne Falls in order to keep her safe and woo her hopefully. We get to see all our favorite NF residents throughout the book and how the whole town joins in to help care for Desi. This book contains Ms. Painter’s brand of humor that Nocturne Falls is known for and the quirkiness of this little town. These stories siimply make me smile and we all need a story to do that for us.
Happy Reading,
Debra

Who is going to see 50 Shades darker?

img_0204

So who is going to see the movie 50 Shades Darker? I am just wondering. I am going to see it.

I was rereading the book “Grey”yesterday and I was thinking about doing a piece on all the books and the movies so far.

I am just going to say this, I am not recapping the books in the piece, people know what happened.

I actually like the 50 shades of Grey books. Funny thing is that I like them, but I absolutely dislike Anastasia. Which is terrible since she is the main character and it is written from her perspective. She annoys me to no end. She is whinny, and tries to stand her ground at the wrong times, and because of it shit happens and she wonders why he is angry.

I think Christian is messed up too, however I think he is more of an adult than Ana. I also just like him more. He does need to let go, but damn he is trying to have a dominate/submissive relationship here. Bad idea on his part to ask Ana the cry baby to do that.

The movie: The movie was bad! I was so disappointed. The soundtrack was really good. They cut too much and Christian looked like nothing more than a rich stalker/abusive control freak. The Actors are all wrong for this movie. Jamie Dornan may be hot, but he looks like he is struggling to play his role. He looks like he is in pain most of the time or like he is going to throw up. Dakota Johnson is even worse. Am I the only one who was trying to figure out why she was moaning all the time in the sex scenes before he ever really touches her? It was so annoying and they made her seem stronger than she was in the book, but also made her seem less smart. These people look nothing like the book describes them at all. They butchered this book and I think that is why E.L. James has taken over for the second and third movies. Hopefully these will be better!

I know what your thinking. If I disliked the movie and the main character so much, why am I going to see the second movie? Well, I am seeing it to give them a second chance, and because I freaking love Christian Grey and I am hoping they will do a better job of portraying him this time.

I love the book “Grey” from Christian’s perspective. It was a breath of fresh air to get out of Ana’s inner monologue. His thoughts are crazy sometimes, but others make me laugh. Like when he is like “I still want this, why I don’t know. She is so difficult.” I was like I keep asking myself the same thing, Christian.

Before anyone comments, It is so poorly written, I don’t know how anyone could read it. Well, I have read way worse, and I have read way better. I tend to like the story line and whether or not I can let myself run away with it. If I can picture the characters, or relate to them and see them as possibly being real, then I will read it anyway. I am faithful to one author, whose books always have errors. I love her stories and she is great at telling them.

So I think this turned into a rant! Oh well!

Peace,

Les

“Mr. President” By: Katy Evans

mr-president

Hey everyone! I was reading this book, and thought how fitting that I finished this book the day before we officially get a new President. *This is not a political post!*

Here we go!

Charlotte is a young girl when she meets the President of the United States and his son. Her father is a Senator. Her mother says she should write a note to thank the President for being at dinner. She instead writes a letter to his son Matt, telling him if he ever runs for President she would help him. (His dad told her one day Matt would be president) Fast forward eleven years, and Charlotte is working full-time, her father and mother are still in politics, the President she met was assassinated, and his son Matt is now running for President.

Matthew Hamilton is America’s sweetheart, they have watched him grow, lose his dad, and he has decided the country needs change and is going to run for President. He hasn’t forgotten Charlotte, and still has her letter. He plans on keeping her to her word to help him win.

And this, ladies and gentlemen is where the fun begins. Charlotte realizes that her childhood crush on Matt hasn’t gone away and is as strong as ever. Matt realizes that Charlotte has grown up into a beautiful, and smart woman.

Problem: Matthew doesn’t want a First Lady. He doesn’t think it is fair, because he watched his mother take a back seat to the country. He refuses to do that to anyone he loves.

And….. the shit gets real hot! They are sneaking around, trying not to get caught by anyone. They are campaigning and traveling together and sneaking off to remote locations, so the staff, and the press don’t find out and ruin the campaign.

You will have to read the book to find out if they get caught or not!

So, my opinion. I really liked this story. I like the characters, the story line and the idea behind it. Charlotte is an honest, smart girl, who realizes the truth in her situation. Matt is a strong man who has always been in the public eye, and who is very close to his mother. Charlotte’s parents are strange to me, however their concerns and views make sense, since they are also in the public eye.

Let me be clear, if we ever have a super hot, young smart man running for President, I will be signing up to work on that campaign. Matt is super hot! I love him. He is a guy next door type (well I wish he lived next door to me!).

What I really like about this story is that the sex, and the sneaking around is coming as a secondary thing to them working and campaigning. This book is about the entire journey, not just their relationship.

This is a series and I am going to buy the second one as soon as I am finished writing this. It ends in a cliff hanger, so I NEED to know what happens next.

Give it a chance, go read it!

Peace,

Les
