As I am sure you have heard about this new book, Life and Death, that Stephenie Meyers is putting out for the 10th anniversary of Twilight. Now, I am a twilight fan, don’t hold it against me. I am however just pretty shocked and kind of angry that this is what she is choosing to give us, her devoted readers that made Twilight what it is today.
Her readers have begged for years since the talk began of doing the Twilight series from Edwards point of view. She allows someone to read one of the drafts and they betray her trust and release it, and now all of the fans have to suffer. Even though this wasn’t the only version in existence.
So the part that makes me angry is that here she is trying to sell us this mockery of a book instead of giving us the greatest gift that would have brought Twilight back to the fore front, which is Midnight Sun.
So, when do we finally get to have the book we are dreaming about? When is our loyalty to the books, movies, and entire franchise going to be rewarded? Or, is it that we just don’t matter as much as we thought, or would like to believe we do.
As a big Twilight fan, I refuse to be quieted by this scrap she is throwing us. I feel like she will always be waving the Midnight Sun bone in front of us like snapping dogs forever.
I am vowing right here and now that I will not purchase this book, I will not let it overshadow what she at one time said she would give us, her loyal fans, Midnight Sun.
Look, I know authors can’t give every reader what they want, but I believe that if you say you are going to deliver something, then you should hold up your end of the bargain, and we will hold up ours.
Peace
Les
I’m a little disappointed in this announcement too but for different reasons. I was hoping if she released again in this series it would be a new story, not a retell of a story already written. Sigh.

Hi Kar,
I loved the Twilite series. I read all the books and saw all the movies. I still love and listen to their love song. Cristina Perri sang it I think. It’s in my head but I can’t remember the title. Oh well.
I’m Janice. I wanted to thank you for visiting my site MostlyBlogging.com. I am glad you liked my Reddit guide. Nice to meet you.

Nice to meet you as well! It was a great article, Reddit is a bit confusing so it’s nice to have a guide. Are you going to read the new book?

Hi Kar,
I read Les’s opinion of the new book, and I agree with Les. Twilight fans wanted to read the book from Edward’s point of view. Maybe she’ll come through with it eventually.

I’m a little interested for what the book will be like! I read Twilight a while ago and although the story was ok, the writing was a little shabby. She should be a better writer now after 10 years of extra experience. Definitely going to read it when it comes out!

Exactly! I get why she was mad but at the same time she shouldn’t have just shut it down.

Kar,
Thank you for saying what many of us are thinking, and not falling for the marketing. Although if you bought the book, well, hey ya gotta find out somehow. I’m definitely not a fan of the cross-pollinations in series novels (not to mention hip-hop songs) with authhors featuring other authors or multi-perspective stories fueling hype of what’s already in place. I thought one perspective was chosen to make the best story possible and now we’re getting what I can only assume are previous draft ideas that were’nt good enough for the first and best published piece to begin with. However; when the author wants to sell books and make money, to leave a concept alone and not milk it for every cent possible is a bad idea. Look at that 50-shades lady. All she has is renamed Twilight fan-fiction to work with and nothing else, but she did pay $30million+ in income taxes last year so it’s working out. I don’t expect any new and different work from her anyway.
Oh, can we please get a version of ‘To Kill A Mocking Bird’ from the perspective of Boo Radley? Or what about some multi-perspective editions of Grapes of Wrath. I’m sure those would be just as good as the origional work. Come to think of it, a Boo Radley view would be kind of interesting. I think I just gave someone an idea.

I mean I see what your saying, but I love multi-perspective books. It’s one of my favorite things an author can do. I’ll admit it I read the new 50 shades book, and liked it better than the original one from Ana’s perspective. Mostly because I can’t stand Ana’s inner dialogue. But I loved it from Christian’s perspective. Also, I am all about authors that have multiple perspectives in their books in the first place. My mother always said it was because I am nosey. If I only have one perspective and the character is doing something dumb I always wonder what the other character is thinking at that point. Thank you for sharing your view with us!!!!!!
